Chuen Lin Hong is a Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation, Faculty of Dentistry, Health Sciences Division, University of Otago. She holds affiliations with the Office of the Head of Faculty (Dentistry) and the Sir John Walsh Research Institute, particularly within its Dental Epidemiology and Public Health programme. Hong obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Otago, where she was a fifth-year student in 2016 and a BDS summer student in 2015. She completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Community Dentistry (PGDipComDent) at the same institution in 2020.
During her postgraduate studies, Hong received the second prize for her oral presentation 'Personality, dental neglect, and oral health: a longitudinal study' at the Sir John Walsh Research Institute Research Day in 2018. As a BDS student, she earned runner-up in the ANZ Division Colgate poster competition at the International Association for Dental Research General Session in Seoul in 2016. Her research draws on the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study to investigate oral health outcomes. Key publications include 'Long-Term Survival of Enamel-Defect-Affected Teeth' (Caries Research, 2021; corresponding author), 'Oral Health-Related Quality of Life from Young Adulthood to Mid-Life' (Healthcare, 2023; Department of Oral Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry), 'Differential Unmet Needs and Experience of Restorative Dental Care in Trajectories of Dental Caries' (Caries Research, 2023; Sir John Walsh Research Institute, Department of Oral Sciences), and 'The Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study: oral health findings and their implications' (Records of the Auckland Museum, 2020; Department of Oral Sciences). Hong served as a named investigator on the project 'Towards understanding inequality in oral health-related quality of life,' funded by $39,152 from the Ministry of Health Oral Health Fund in 2020, in collaboration with A/Prof Jonathan Broadbent and Prof W. Murray Thomson.
